Weather

The weather forecaster on the TV started the day with "It’s a great day on the slopes for Valentine's Day". He was wrong.

The day started cloudy. The sun tried to break through but failed. Gradually it got colder and there was intermittent light snow and some sleet.

Conditions

Started in excellent condition. The sleet left the snow surface a little heavy.

Overall

The last day.

As usual, Chris and I headed up the mountain with arrangements to meet Sue later.

We started off by skiing all of the runs from King Consolidated in turn, starting from Seldom Seen and finishing with King Con itself. Most of the runs had been freshly groomed and were pretty smooth. Combusion also freshly groomed was also great to ski.

After a mid-morning break, we moved across to Pioneer. 10th Mountain through the trees was particularly enjoyable. This session was cut short because the lift was closed for a while to allow a helicopter to land to airlift out a casualty, so we stopped earlier than planned for lunch.

Chris went off on his own after lunch to clock up some more "vertical". After seeing Sue to the Gondola as the weather deteriorated, I did two bump runs off Motherlode and three runs off Silverlode before heading down the mountain.

For the last run, I looked for a bit of a challenge. Stopping short of Silver Queen, I turned off the trail down the ungroomed face. This proved to be fresh powder in excellent condition, about as steep as Blueslip Bowl but in much better condition. Finally the soft bumps of Waterfall saw the end of the day.
